Bathurst 1000 Race Weekend
Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 2011
Each year Australia’s premier race car event is held in Bathurst, New South Wales and is the race the V8 Super Car competitors want to win. The race circuit includes normal Bathurst town roads and the famous Mount Panorama. The main race on Sunday is 1000 kilometres in length. The 2011 event is held over the dates October 6 to October 9 including support races and qualifiers.
Accommodation
Many thousand spectators arrive in Bathurst to be part of the event and accommodation is at a premium. One of the more popular choices to provide accommodation is to hire a campervan or motorhome from Sydney. This also provides transport to the event and back again for those living in Sydney or flying out of Sydney airport.
As a result almost the entire available fleet of motorhomes will be booked out for this period so it is essential that racegoers book a vehicle early. This particularly applies to the larger 4, 5 and 6 berth motorhomes as these are most popular with groups of friends wishing to share expenses. Smaller 2 berth campervans with a shower and toilet are also very popular.
History
The Bathurst 1000 as now part of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship series and is an annual clash between rivals Holden and Ford with various race teams participating. In past years many other manufacturers vehicles have been entered, some with success particulary in the early years when the event was a 500 mile race.
While the Holden and Ford V8s have dominated in recent decades there have been wins by Mini, Cortina and Torana vehicles and a win by Jaguar in 1985. Now exclusively a V8 race since 2000.
