What is the most important advice we can offer anyone wanting to do a motorhome or campervan hire in Australia? - Book Early!!! And by 'early' we mean several months in advance; the busier the period, such as Christmas/New Year, the earlier you will need to book.
Every year we see the same thing repeated over and over again; people leave it too late to book their campervan hire – especially during busy periods. This leaves many people disappointed and frustrated that a suitable vehicle is no longer available.
Even though the entire fleet of campervans and motorhomes available for rental in Australia is very large, they will all get booked out during busy periods such as Christmas, New Year, Easter and school holidays. Larger motorhomes that are popular with families are the first to go and then 3 and 4 berth motorhomes are next to be booked out. An Australian campervan or motorhome holiday is becoming more and more popular each year by both international travellers and Australian residents. Even special event weekends such as the Bathurst race weekend in early October will see all 4, 5 and 6 berth motorhomes fully booked out months in advance.
Australia is a very large country so when planning a motorhome or campervan holiday consideration must be given to the distance travelled each day. For example if you are planning a campervan hire from Adelaide to Cairns a distance of about 3200 kilometres must be travelled at a minimum. If you were planning 10 days to do this trip you would be travelling 320 kilometres per day on average without allowing for any additional sightseeing or rest periods. This would not be a relaxing holiday. Better to allow more time or shorten the distance between destinations.
Before departing on your campervan hire a vehicle briefing will take place that will demonstrate the features available. This particularly applies to the use of the toilet and shower facilities that many people may not have any previous experience with. Modern motorhome toilets are very simple to operate utilising an easily removed, enclosed cassette style system.
